Sliding Into Third

Disclaimer: I haven’t slid into third since I played elite softball as a kid.. the last time I tried I just kind of crumbled onto third base during a slow pitch game.. and I hurt myself.

So why the headline?  Because this week, Baby and I begin the third trimester of pregnancy!

WAIT.. WHAT?!?! How did this happen so quickly?!?!  I thought we had plenty of time to paint.. to choose a crib.. to prepare!  This pregnancy has simply FLOWN by, thanks to a healthy baby and some really good luck in having a smooth pregnancy!

Still, as any momma will back me up on (except for the REALLY lucky ones!) things are starting to get a little more uncomfortable.  And sometimes, you just need to talk to someone who knows and can share their pregnancy pains with you!  So it’s a good thing I’m in very good company…

THE WOMEN WHO DRANK THE WATER

jeff

Lauren Nathan, wife of my good friend Jeff Nathan.. due in May

kailyn

Former KETV reporter Kailyn (Reid) Watson.. due in June

mattie

My hair stylist extraordinaire Mattie Knihal.. due in August

cas

One of my best friends from high school, Cassie Lacey.. due in August

kylie

My friend and Omaha nurse Kylie Scheideler.. due in September

leanne

Fellow PLHS classmate and Omaha actress, Leanne Hill-Carlson.. due in October

That’s A LOT of friends, all pregnant at the same time!! It’s really great though.. because together we are a pool of endless resources for commiserating and comparing notes.

“I have a horrible cold.. anything you’ve tried that helps?”

“I’m so tired!! Any tricks that help with the other kiddos and/or give you energy at work?”

“Strollers!?! Help me!! Do you like the brand you got? Which ones are you looking at?”

And the biggest thing we can all discuss.. DRINKING THE HORRIBLE ORANGE WATER for the glucose test! Ugh.. it’s like drinking Shasta from a 2-liter bottle that’s been left open on the counter for a few days..

The BEST part of sharing this experience together is watching each little life enter the world, hearing each new name, and seeing each precious face.

Chloe

Chloe Cadwell Kaiser, born March 4 to my friends and proud parents Erin & Josh Kaiser

I see this perfect, gorgeous little girl and I grin ear to ear.  I can’t WAIT until we meet our newest little addition!!  Batter up!

What’s In A Name?

When someone sees I am pregnant, there are usually a few standard questions that follow.  When are you due, do you know what you’re having, and do you have any names picked out?

We know the answers to the first two questions (June and a little boy), but WE’VE GOT NOTHING for names.  Nadda. Nil. Zilch.

I’ve had some suggestions from my coworkers here at KETV.. even before we knew our baby’s gender.

**

Adrian: Bellatrix

Me: Adrian, this baby will neither be a Death Eater nor Voldemort’s sidekick..

**

Natalie: Harper.  That’s perfect.  I really think you should just go with that.

Andy: I’ve never seen a Harper that wasn’t cute.

**

Rob: You’ve already got an Easton.. how about Rawlings? Mizuno? Louisville?

Me: (no response. Shook head at Rob.)

**

Easton even offered a suggestion when I asked him what we should name his brother…

ALL DONE!

SOOO I’ve been hitting all the websites, looking for ideas.  Yesterday, one site suggested Templeton.

Me: (like the rat on Charlotte’s Web?!?!)

BUT TODAY, AN IDEA!!  The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is holding a Facebook contest to name these new babies..

thanks to the Henry Doorly Zoo for the photo!

Like the Henry Doorly Zoo on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/OmahaZoo?fref=ts, and next week (March 8-15) leave a comment with your name ideas for the two little boys and three little girls.  The lions’ keepers will choose the top 20 and then allow YOU to vote March 22-27.

Here’s my idea.. they only need 5 names, that leaves us 15 great suggestions to pick from!! We’ll just take one of those!

Me: (great.. so we’ll have an Easton and a Simba..)

SIGH.  Back to the drawing board…

This Magic Moment

One click of a button, and an image on a screen makes your heart flip.  A face.  You know how small it is.. how tiny his whole little body is at this point, but he’s there.  His eyes, his little button nose, even a touch of hair at the top of his head.  He’s a tiny, little person; and he is our son.

I’m BAAA-AACK! Anchor’s Away has cast off again in anticipation of a whole new adventure.. a new baby in our family!  My husband, Brian, and I will welcome our second child early this summer.  We’ll soon have two little boys ganging up on us at home.  Add our dog, Mack, to the bunch, and I’ll be the lone lady in a house full of boys.  And I can’t wait 🙂

I’m blogging a little earlier than last time, and hope you’ll follow along on this journey!  Prepare yourself for Star Wars references, whining about maternity clothes, and blogs about splurges on cheese pizza and Dairy Queen!  And PLEASE, share your stories about your kiddos and pregnancies (or, Dads, sympathy pains!)!  I can’t wait to hear from you!

THANK YOU for your love and support, and THANK YOU for flattering me by checking out Anchor’s Away! The next few months (and years!) will be a wonderful adventure!
