This is how I feel about Miranda Kerr.

Ohhhhh, baby weight.  How I loathe thee.

There is an amazing new book out, written right here in Omaha, called ‘It’s Really 10 Months.’  It’s a compilation of emails sent between three friends while they were all expecting babies, and showcases the less than glamorous side of pregnancy that never seems to make the Carter’s commercials.  You can check out the book and the moms’ blog online.  I knew I would love this book when I read:

“Delivering the Truth…In What to Expect When You’re Expecting, it is recommended that the average woman gain between 25 and 35 pounds.  We found this statement slightly amusing as collectively we gained 150 pounds.”

I’m not going to reveal how much weight I gained with either of my boys, but let’s say I let out a ‘Hallelujah!’ in my kitchen when I read that.

So now that my sweet little baby is a few months old, it’s time to get to work.  Hello, MyFitnessPal and MapMyWalk apps!  Time to put Blurred Lines on repeat and hit the walking trails (yes, I still love that song.)  Adrian and Rob, when you see me inhaling Reeses Pieces at my desk, just rip that beautiful orange bag out of my hand!! I have this vision in my head of how I look that isn’t THAT far off how I USED to look.. then I catch a glimpse of myself during our newscasts or in photos and get the ‘Miranda Kerr Angry Face’ again.

I’m not writing all of this to solicit complimentary messages and comments–THANK YOU for what you have all sent, you are amazing and always, ALWAYS, brighten my day 🙂  But I guess, it’s just to commiserate with anyone else out there who doesn’t feel like the best version of themselves.  So let’s make a pact. Ladies (and gents!) are you with me?!? To anyone who want a change.. to the brides hoping to look their best.. to the new mommies out there, just like me, LET’S DO THIS!

Here’s a great article tweeted by the Nebraska Medical Center today titled ’12 Reasons you’re Not Losing Weight’–definitely food for thought!

A Perfect Day

I’ve had an absolutely AMAZING week.  How often do we say that? How often SHOULD we say that?  AMAZING 🙂

This week, I turned 32.  (NOT 48, thank you very much, John Oakey 🙂  Wednesday was one of those magical days where the fabulous moments just kept on coming. Several times, I was near tears, just overwhelmed by the kindness and caring from EVERYONE from my coworkers, to my friends, to our viewers.

THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who remembered me and took a few seconds (or more!) to help make my day so special.

There And Back Again.. A Momma’s Tale

I truly admire the beautiful, pregnant women I see on Pinterest who wear fashion forward maternity clothes and look EXACTLY the same as they did pre-baby, only with a little added bump.

preggo

Ok.. maybe admire isn’t the right word..

I am NOT one of those women.  With my first baby, and so far in this pregnancy, I have gained weight EVERYWHERE, not just my belly.  I see it in my reflection.. I see it in clips of myself during my stories.

Granted, I’ve also welcomed cheese pizza, Dairy Queen and this mocha-chip-a-chocolate thing on my desk back into my life with open arms.

But it’s never too late to be healthier, right?  And I’m truly lucky to have some great inspiration and help to do just that!

For expectant mothers–or anyone for that matter!!–I have a GREAT blog for you to check out: TerminatorMom!  The author, Megan, is a local mother of three who embraced changing her diet and exercise after the birth of her second child.  SHE. LOOKS. INCREDIBLE.  But what is so inspiring to me is her attitude and what these changes have meant for her energy level and the way she approaches life.  She makes me feel like I can do anything if I just put my mind to it!

Megan wrote an awesome blog awhile back detailing some great smoothie recipes you can try at home.  It’s a great motivator for me to eat more fruits and yogurt because I feel like I’m cheating getting a smoothie, even though I’m eating something really nutritious!  CLICK HERE to check it out! (And all of Megan’s other great advice on exercise, recipes, and health)

Megan has told me before, and I forward this on to ANYONE hoping to live a healthier life, DON’T FOCUS ON THE NUMBER–focus on how you feel.  I want to know I am eating as healthy as possible for my little boy, and setting myself up to feel good all-around after my second little man is born.  But for now, ONE SMOOTHIE, PLEASE!

(As soon as I finish off the boxes of Girl Scout cookies I plan to order from Andy Kendeigh’s daughter… 🙂
